They would set up all the studio equipment and the link with LA, and I’d walk into a different room in my house, which was a delight. I don’t think I did my first session at home, but I did a lot of the subsequent sessions here in this room in my house. Pegg: I guess it was a pandemic project, but I can’t remember exactly. Thompson: When did the script come to you? Was this one of those pandemic projects where you did the voiceover in a closet? I’m imagining it was slightly different from doing it previously. I’m the voice, but the animators create his physicality and the way he moves, and that’s a massive part of what makes him so enjoyable. That’s down to very much down to the strength of the stories and the characters.

It’s very nice when that starts to happen. Pegg: When you take on a character, and you see that it’s fun, you hope that you can do it justice and that it will resonate. Thompson: Talking of franchises, Buck has proven to be a hugely popular character in his own right in the Ice Age franchise. This is the first thing you’ve done for Disney+. Thompson: As you say, Ice Age is now under Disney. It’s been a real treat for Disney to take up the reins with this story. With Disney+ being so successful and such a fantastic platform for this stuff, it’s created the perfect opportunity to expand. The thing is that the Ice Age family is so huge, there’s plenty of room for that kind of thing. I don’t think my hinting at it had any effect whatsoever, but I’m still delighted. Pegg: I always hoped and used to make jokes about a Buck spin-off in voice sessions, but I never thought anyone would listen. Thompson: Did the idea of a Buck-centric movie ever come up before now?
